It was a great session. Alex is a great teacher and photographer.

I'm very pleased with this course. Alex conducted it very well. As it was too noisy in Cafe Belga we had the session in Alex's photography studio - the location is excellent, he could show us more equipment and we tested the cameras. I highly recommend that the beginners' courses be held in the studio.

The course took place at the Cafe Belga (it was an extremely cold day). It was pleasant, but there was a lot of noise in the café. I suggest that the initial courses be held in another location, for example in Alex's studio.

I was very disappointed with the "classroom" - basically a local café. It was noisy, cold and not at all conducive to learning. Often I struggled to hear what Alex was saying and it was difficult to focus and absorb the difficult concepts. Nowhere on your website did you say that you do not have classrooms of your own. I regret having paid for all 3 classes, otherwise I would not have bothered to return after the first one. However good the instructor, if you cannot hear and cannot concentrate, you cannot learn. The classes were a waste of time (and money).

Share some theory instructions upfront, because we have nothing on paper to reflect on. Listen to each questions and take the questions seriously.

There should be a longer portrait course. 3hr seemed very short to cover all those topics

Emily is a great teacher, the class on portrait photography was extremely useful to me. I was very surprised how many things one can learn in only a few hours. I would definetely recommend it to my friends. Looking forward to other courses with the Photo Academy.

Awesome as always!

Loved the lesson. This is the second time I have followed her lessons. Theory and techniques very easy to follow with some examples of great photographers. Directly implementing learned theory in to the streets and evaluating pictures makes this course very interesting!

Emily is great! Very positive and I learned a lot!

The course on architecture photography was enriching and Emily is a dynamic and enthousiastic teacher. I could take away some interesting guidance, ideas and thoughts. Two points will need to be improved though: The time management of the course did not correspond to the foreseen agenda. Theory was too long, shooting too short and at the end, only two persons out of five got feedback about their practical work. I was extremely disappointed because I consider it essential to have feedback on the work done during the course where we were trying to implement what we had just learned. Why analysing 40 pictures of one person instead of asking each participant to select some pictures that they would like to have analysed by the professional photographer who is teaching? Doing that, every participant could have gone home with some precious and concrete advice. I would also suggest to check beforehand the knowledge level of participants so that the introduction or theory part can either be quick or better targeted. This will leave more time for shooting and feedback. We had 2h of theory (instead of 1h foreseen), therefore shooting time was reduced to 1 h (instead of 2h) and there was not enough time left for feedback for everybody.

Emily gave a thorough and pleasant class. Everything was clearly explained and the practical exercises permitted me to understand how the camera works. I look forward to the next class.

The teacher explained in an understandable and clear way all the concepts. I liked the practical exercises and her way of teaching. The class covered the basic camera settings as expected.

Emily is a passionate photographer who inspired me to follow the project outside of the workshop content. I learnt how to plan a series, which kind of photos I need to take and i also learnt about the interesting work of some photojournalist. Thank you Enily for your time and contagious passion! However, the workshop has points for improvement in terms of time management. We were only 3 students and we could not see the work of one of us because we were all involved in the selection of final photos of each student in the school computer. We were only 3...this is not feasible for 5 persons as maximum number of students for this course. I think timing could be improved by asking students to bring their laptop or iPad. After the shooting, a time can be allocated for each student to select the 5 photos (and the teacher can be around helping each student individually). At the end, each student could project their final selection and discuss all together. Besides that, I enjoyed the experience and I will join another workshop of the photo academy soon!

I really like the combition between theory and practice, plus all the good advice Emily was giving to us while we were taking photographies on the street. I will totally recommend this course to a friend! Thanks a lot as well for organising this.

Due to some organisational challenges we had no class room so the class was held in the lobby. In itself it was not a problem, but for me it was disturbing to hear the other class talk just a few meters away from us (no door) and they came over a few times to ask us to be quieter although in reality probably it was just a strong echo. So this aspect was really disturbing. Also, I personally wish this class would been longer in order to accommodate critiquing street photos of all participants. This would have been another learning experience for all, to see how different participants had different approaches given (almost) the same theme.

Emily was a fantastic teacher! She was very pedagogical in presenting the material and helping us to apply it practically. I feel I got a lot out of the class! I think, however, based on the description of the course, I was expecting more on the different functions and settings of the camera. But I suppose you can only cover so much in 3,5h. I am definitely interested in continuing my photography education and will be looking at classes that Emily teaches when I do :-)

Very disappointed :-( The teacher did not seem very well prepared and was constantly digging through her piles of notes. I think she was quite nervous and I know in that case it can be quite difficult. Unfortunately she wasn't able to clearly explain the concepts and the exercises. Most of the time it wasn't clear why we were actually doing the exercises. I've had two previous beginners workshop and enjoyed them thoroughly. However, I hope I don't have this teacher for my next workshop. Sorry for the negative feedback - hopefully it can be turned into something constructive.

Emily solved three of may main problems in one hour. Perfectly! Thank you.

It was such a great class! I loved how it combined theory and practice. The exercises were most useful and helped me understand the theoretical part (and also get more confident with the camera). The small group setting made it super easy to get a very personalized training and what I loved most was the personalized feedback I got after the exercises or when answering my questions. Prior to this class I tried to find my ways with this topic (Aperture and DOF) using info and videos I found on internet and was so frustrated that I had some unanswered questions. Now these are all answered, thanks to Emily! A special shout-out also for the incredible service for setting me up last minute and outside of business hours so I could attend the class the following day. Will definitely be back!
