Course #1 - First Steps in Smartphone Photography: Equipment, Applications, Settings (online)

In this first course, the basics will be established:

• We will discuss the phone itself and the real differences between certain models.
• We will also talk about the accessories and their impact on the quality of your pictures.
• We will review the available software for shooting, retouching, and sharing.

• Last but not least, you will understand the different shooting settings, which are crucial for controlling the aesthetics of your pictures.

This session, lasting 2.5 hours, will provide you with a solid foundation for developing your smartphone photography and will allow you to tackle the rest of our series of courses on this subject without any problem!

This fifth workshop will focus on the famous social network; a place that is loved by photographers and is absolutely essential for those who photograph with their smartphone.

-You will discover many tips, inspiration and some photographic routines to harmonise your page, make it more dynamic and give it a real visual identity!

-We will learn what is the best strategy for sharing and communicating on the network, so that your pictures can get the success they deserve!

You will leave this session ready to (re)invent your Instagram page, to shape it to your image and to give it the attributes of success!

Course #2 - Framing and Composing

In this second workshop, we'll discuss well-chosen framing techniques, sharp lines, harmony, colours, backgrounds... In short, the time has come to talk about "composition"!

-Together, we will explore the high principles and tricks of composition. You will receive simple yet highly practical advice on how to make your images outstanding!

-Based on the principle that "finding your style" requires "finding inspiration" above all, you will discover the work of several photographers (past and contemporary) with unique composition methods.

-We will also approach the work of retouching, often complementary to shooting, to obtain the ideal frame.

-The workshop will be punctuated by small practical exercises, to "concretise" the teachings and notions discussed.

You will leave this session with a sharper eye, full of inspiration, and the necessary skills to enhance your photographic compositions.

Course #3 - The light

This third course will be all about light; where to find it, how to create it, how to model it and how to make it shine with your smartphone!

-Based on examples (with supporting images), we'll analyse successful lighting effects and learn how to reproduce them.

-The workshop will be accompanied by small practical exercises, to "concretise" what we have learned.

-We will approach the work of retouching, often essential to emphasise and enhance lighting.

-We will also talk about the (simple) use of artificial light, as well as some attractive (but cheap) accessories to work with lighting.

This session, lasting 2.5 hours, will allow you to better understand light and how it interacts with the picture, and will give you the keys for using it to the advantage of your photography.

Course #4 - Inspiration (online)

This course is a little out of the ordinary! The teacher, with their keen eye for the history of photography, and in tune with the leading authors of our time, will take you on a journey to discover those who have shaped the art of photography and the photographers who continue its evolution.

Although the formula is less "participative" than the rest of our courses, this course offers a major benefit for those who want to develop the artistic aspect of their photography. In fact, any form of creation relies on a source of inspiration that guides our first steps in the conception of a work.

This 2.5h session will provide you with cultural resources to successfully complete your photographic project, whatever your ambition in this field.

Course #7 - The series (online)

A series of images allows another level of photographic expression! Whether aesthetic, thematic or chronological associations, a series brings depth and interest to a photographer's work. The scenography of an exhibition, the layout of a book, the design of an online gallery; all require thinking of one's work differently than as individual images.

Thanks to numerous examples, taken from the work of a variety of photographers, you will discover the different common threads that can guide a photographic series. We will work on the first phase of the editing process, i.e. the editing and selection of your images. A process with many dilemmas! We will see how to build a coherent series on the basis of images that have already been made (and that were not taken specifically to create a series). This could apply perfectly to a batch of images taken on holiday! Finally, we will discuss sharing on social networks and platforms. What means do you have available to you to get your series seen?

This is a very complete course, designed to help you create harmonious picture sequences that convey a certain vision of the subject: yours.

Course #8 - Video

Your smartphone has enormous potential for making videos! Indeed, nowadays it is easy to mistake footage filmed and edited with a phone, for a video made with professional equipment.

In this eighth workshop, we will take a small side-step: we will abandon "pure" photography to devote ourselves to the creation of video content!

The goal of this workshop is to provide you with the tools and technical knowledge necessary to make a professional-looking film (on a smartphone of course); that is to say, a film in which the image, sound and editing are perfectly mastered.

Whether it's about optimal equipment, shooting techniques, or final editing, we will cover all the essential steps to produce a quality video!

Course #9 - The photo review

It's time to talk about your pictures! During this videoconference session, the trained eye of a professional photographer will look at your images as well as those of your "classmates"; they will discover your strengths, and any improvements that can be applied (both technical and aesthetic).

This will teach you to analyse your photography from another perspective, to draw from precious advice and gain some new inspiration (author references, books) that will allow you to progress in your practice.

But don't worry! Your images will be shown in an anonymous way, unless you wish to appear as an author; it is up to you.

So, practically how does it work? At least three days before the session, you will need to send a maximum of 30 images to the photographer in charge of the course (the email address will be given to you after the purchase). During the session (which lasts 2.5 hours), your images will be shown according to the photographer's choices, without mentioning your name, and you will also explore the images of other participants, as well as the comments made about them.

IMPORTANT An appointment form will be sent to registrants a few days before the date of each course, including the URL address to access the virtual classroom (no account needs to be created, no data registration required), as well as the email address to which to send your images (details on the resolution and format of the images will also be mentioned).

Course #10 - Food photography

Do you like gastronomy, do you love to cook, or are you a lover of beautiful and tasty dishes? If this is the case, you probably use photography to immortalise your creations. This workshop will give you the keys to make a success of your culinary images and to present a successful dish in style!

Here is what is planned during these 2.5 hours:

• First of all, we will discover what (theoretically) makes a culinary photo a successful image.
• We will see how to choose and manage the light in order to magnify a culinary creation.
• You will learn how to stage your compositions, in order to add "storytelling" and depth to your images.
• We will talk about composition and see what are the means to make a culinary image aesthetic.
• A few exercises will be proposed, using very common subjects (no need to have ready-made meals at your disposal; a few slices of bread, for example, or apples will do just fine).
• Finally, we will discuss how to retouch images (via a free mobile application).

Course #6 - The portrait

For this sixth course, the focus will be on the face... How can you transpose the beauty of an expression or gaze into a picture; how can you make a portrait shine with light and maximise the intensity? These questions and more will be answered during this session.

• On the basis of examples (with supporting images), we will analyse different portraits made with a smartphone and we will discover the techniques used to obtain these different results.
• We will discuss the work of retouching (via mobile applications), often essential to highlight/beautify a face.
• The course will be accompanied by small practical exercises, in order to "concretise" the lessons and notions discussed.
• The art of the "selfie" will not be ignored and you will receive good advice for improving its aesthetics and depth.

At the end of this course, you will approach taking portraits with greater confidence. Photographing the other and enhancing his or her image will become more natural to you.
