Catherine East

Catherine was given her first DLSR as a birthday gift years ago by a group of friends and what started as a little dabble turned into a business venture. She took pictures of her own children, then her friends’ children and finally listened to those close to her and began fitting in photography assignments along side her career as a project manager. Fast forward 10 years and here she is, a freelance photographer – working with couples getting married, families and small business brands – the full circle of life! So photography is now a full time career choice and she couldn’t be more fulfilled. There’s never a dull moment with so many creative lenses, prisms and filters to explore!

In addition, Catherine is Assistant Editor for an international photography magazine - This Detailed Life. Not only does she write jargon-free equipment reviews, she interviews photographers from across the globe and works with a highly driven team to build a thriving community of creative artists.

Catherine’s taught photography for 5 years on a private basis working with students of all ages, keen on developing their unique eye and perspective. She uses all her photography experiences to enrich the teaching she delivers and has a particular passion for photographs with depth - the real life kind; the ones that tell a story! Sit down with her for a chat about photography and within minutes she’ll tell you “every half decent photograph starts with a detail that stands part from everything else”! What’s more, as a light seeker she’ll have you searching for even the smallest pocket of light to capture images with high creative impact.
